I have to say that in my opinion, the weather is very nearly perfect. However, if you ask the locals, they think it’s pretty hot! The temperatures for the next week are forecast to be in the high 70s and up to mid-80s, with rain most afternoons. Just about perfect! The recent rains have removed Teller County’s Stage 1 fire ban, even.
Speaking of rain, yesterday’s rain was of the hard and round variety and it got really loud inside our RV! This picture was when it first started, before any of it had much size. An hour and a half later, there was still a drift of hail where it had slid off the awning.
This has been an interesting weekend at Golden Bell. The RV park played host to a group of square dancers, some of whom we had met before and others we hadn’t. That’s the kind of group we like to have! Most of them were not on the rowdy side and the noise quieted down before 10 pm! We enjoyed watching some of the square dancing last night and even though they invited us, we didn’t take part. My parents had me excused when my PE class was doing square dancing in 7th or 8th grade, and I never was coordinated enough to learn later.
In the meadow just below the RV park, a group of Civil War reenactors was encamped, with battles (and cannons) going on through the day and into the evening. We noticed that it seemed as if they called a truce at meal times, though, since grey uniforms sat beside blue ones to eat. I think Abe Lincoln must have been there, but in his summer straw top hat.
This week we’re looking forward to granddaughter Jordan, husband Marc and their two girls, Rachel and Sara, coming for a visit. I understand Rachel has been talking about the mountains for weeks, so I hope she will like them once she gets here. I’m sure I’ll have lots more pictures next week!
