Where to begin?

My goodness, the past two weeks have been so full of old friends, family and unexpected twists, I hardly know where to start. Our plan for the week following graduation and Mothers’ Day was to meet up with friends and tie up all the loose ends before we left for Colorado for another summer of volunteer camp hosting. God had other plans.

Back up just a bit. On Thursday May 10, LeRoy’s cousin Raymond was able to move to his new room in Sierra Hills Assisted Living in Truth or Consequences. He was thrilled to be out of a nursing home for the first time since September! Then on Monday the 14th, the administrator called to say that they had transported Raymond to the hospital because he said he wasn’t feeling well, but Raymond had refused treatment. (He hates needles and they tried to put in an IV to rehydrate him.) He called later that afternoon to say that they were taking him back to the hospital and the next call we got was very early the next morning from a nurse in Las Cruces to tell us that Raymond was just out of surgery. (More on that in a post of its own, but it included a hurried car trip, Wednesday through Sunday)

Back when LeRoy was starting freshmen orientation at Friends University, he met Dave Macy and they formed a lifelong friendship. We attended church together with Dave and his wife, Becky. Dave was the first employee LeRoy hired in his engineering career. We raised our children together for several years and presented Friends Marriage Encounter together. Dave and Becky were visiting their son’s family for their grandson’s graduation and they stopped to see us on their way back to northern Kansas. We had a wonderful reunion!

Fast forward to Monday, May 21. I was able to get in to see my ENT for a post-surgical recheck. He says I’m doing fine except for a new sinus infection, but it’s a long process. I should be healed by LeRoy’s birthday June 21. In the meantime, I feel very congested most of the time, probably still swelling and inflammation. I’m taking an antibiotic again and hoping for the best!

Tuesday the 22nd was a big day for Granne and Papa. We got to go back to the NICU to see our sweet baby Rae. She had grown so much, from 1 lb. 5 oz. on April 25 to more than 2 lbs. the day we were there.

Not quite a week later, her Grammy and Grandad (daughter Heidi and son-in-law Tim) went to see her today and she now weighs 2 lb. 6 oz., nearly double her birth weight, and looks like this! God is doing amazing things in that little girl!
