Deja vu

Some of this week’s trip has felt like deja vu all over again. Last night we stayed in Tucumcari, NM and experienced something we did a year ago when we stayed there–very limited internet service. I think part of it was due to the fact that, while we had a full four bars of service on the cell phones (and thus the Verizon aircard that provides our internet service), it was in extended service area. Whatever it was, it was frustrating.

We left Tucumcari about 8 a.m. this morning. I know, that sounds early for me since I’m used to sleeping in but both of us woke early. We’ve become used to sleeping in a very dark bus while we were parked inside our building and that, coupled with a change of time zones, had us awake before sunrise. Since we were headed to a truck repair shop in Caballo to have the generator checked, an early start was in our favor. It was interesting to pass through desert terrain with hills and mountains all around. One very positive thing about this trip was how well Liberty ran on the long uphill stretches. Maybe she’s glad to be on the road, too.

Just a note on the generator. Turns out that the battery we bought last year in Quartzsite is shot. We hadn’t thought about that possibility! We were pleased with the service we had at Caballo Emergency Truck Repair. The generator starts like a champ again. There’s still a mechanical issue that caused the battery to go bad, but it can wait. At least we can use the generator when we need it. For now, the sun has provided enough warmth as we travel and we’ve parked where we can plug in at night.

A year ago in September, we spent my birthday night in the Riverbend motel in Truth or Consequences, NM where they have hot tubs with water provided by natural hot springs. Tonight we are parked in one of their RV spaces and the tubs are just as warm and inviting as they were last year. LeRoy deserves a good long soak for all the hard work he’s put in to get us this far.

We’ll visit LeRoy’s cousin Raymond tomorrow and catch up on the year since we’ve seen him, then be on the road later in the week. See you down the road!

Must be something to it, I have had numerous batteries fail during the last twelve months, don’t know what is going on with that. The latest was a $170 starter battery and it was less than two years old.

Never change your watch as you travel, and you will be up and at it, before the tourist crowd even knows what hit them.
