We’ve been thinking about doing some hiking since before we left Wichita and had done enough research to know that Ramsey Canyon would be a good place to start. However, it is closed Tuesday and Wednesday so we knew it would have to wait. Since today was the perfect day to be outdoors, cool and sunny overall we ended up at Carr Canyon Ruins.
We didn’t really hike far, only about 3/4 to 1 mile in and back, but it was so quiet you could hear the water gurgle over the rocks of the stream at a distance. LeRoy saw a white tail deer but it left too quickly for us to get a picture.
One of the things that drew us onto the road that led into the canyon in the first place was a glint off of the mountain high overhead. We wondered if it might be a waterfall. We didn’t hike that far (I’m not a mountain goat), but it did appear to be.
Fall is definitely touching nature in this area, although there’s still a lot of green. It has apparently been a wet year here.
We didn’t encounter any of the bears the sign warned about, although we saw the droppings of some large berry-eating animal. The droppings I can handle, the bear…not so much.
Wonderful scenery! I enjoyed reading the plaque and getting to know some history of the area you guys are in. Have fun and stay away from the bears! Paul
Beautiful pictures!
